The Judge’s Mansion, built in 1893, sits on a lot in the Olde Town East neighborhood. Over a thousand historic homes occupy this area. Some of these homes were built as early as the 1830s and have been preserved to maintain one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city of Columbus. A population boom following the Civil War led to growth in downtown, where transportation was mostly by foot, horse, and horse-drawn buggies. Farmhouses dominated the area until the 1870s when the advent of the street car attracted an influx of diverse residents, resulting in the 50+ architectural styles that typify Olde Towne East.
